Watch an Equine Assisted Therapy Session Live

What you're about to see is a live training session between myself as the client and Meg Kirby, Founder of the Equine Psychotherapy Institute in Daylesford as the practitioner. Grab a cuppa if you like, as this video will take a little time.
The EPI institute is where many practitioners from all over Australia have undertaken their quality training. At the time this was filmed we were required to participate in a real life session in order to qualify for our certification. There were many fellow students sitting behind us, observing and also undertaking a similar experiential process. I didn't know at the time that i would use this footage, but the opportunity emerged years later and I felt it might be of support to those new clients, wondering what Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is all about. This video shows what can emerge in a session (these were my themes at the time that I didn't even know might pop up, especially in front of a bunch of students) and how themes are co-created in partnership with the horses. It gives you some idea what a session could look like. Every session is unique. This was one of mine.
The basis of this work is I-thou, this meaning we are all equal contributors & deeply respectful of what each of us may bring to the growing edge space between us, horses and humans alike. I loved the EPI model of training so much that I wanted to deepen my understanding of this modality of therapy, which is Gestalt. I continued on in my training to graduate with a Masters Degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy. If we can't do the work ourselves, then how can we stand there as practitioners and expect to attune to & hold space for our clients process. What you don't see at the end of this video, is Star (my favourite horse at EPI) backing her bum up to that gate offering it to me for many more scratches & opportunities for boundary setting. Horses have a super power in their attuning. So if you're curious, please take a seat and enjoy watching. All relationships present to us the opportunity for learning, and then growing.

Equus Bloom Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is currently operating from the stunning Noosa Hinterland, with an in room practice (Bloom Psychotherapy) operating from the beautiful town of Pomona.
I have graduated from the Equine Psychotherapy Institute and am an Equine Assisted Practitioner. I was certified in 2017 with EPI. I have a Master's Degree in Gestalt Psychotherapy as well as having been certified in Mental Health First Aid.
Equine Assisted Psychotherapy is an experiential & relational session with the intention of personal growth, personal development (social/emotional/intelligence skills) and professional growth. It is suited to such a broad spectrum of people.
To add to my diversity of training I have over 12 years experience as a disability support worker, and as a youth worker collectively. I have extensive experience working with children and adults with high support needs. I also have experience working within the hospital system. Outside of my skills in the human services field, I am a business owner/director and manager in a well established long standing family business. We have extensive experience in retail and manufacturing and experience networking with international trade. I am also a wife and mother, and have experience in blended families having 2 step children of my own I have raised. I believe myself to be professional, approachable and relatable.
I have found this work as an equine assisted psychotherapist to be an excellent resource for a diversity of reasons. It is a wonderful tool for team building and management styles, as well as deepening one's own understanding of how one personally relates to the world. It is excellent for nervous system regulation and particularly beneficial for those with anxiety or requiring disability support. It is a wonderful tool for confidence building and developing awareness. It is an excellent medium for those confronted by room based therapy and talk therapy. Children and teenagers are welcome with small ponies available for a safety conscious approach.
